No Reserve: Euro 1984 Mercedes-Benz 300D 4-Speed for sale on BaT Auctions – ending January 9 (Lot #15,404)

This 1984 Mercedes-Benz 300D was purchased new by the first owner in Germany while he was on vacation with his son and daughter. He reportedly bought a Porsche 911 for himself and an E21 BMW for his son, in addition to this W123 for his daughter. After touring Europe with his family, he imported all three cars back to Los Angeles, California, where this car was driven by his daughter until 1999. It was then sold to the previous owners, a couple who used the car to commute from their house in Los Angeles to their property just north of Las Vegas, Nevada. Their son-in-law was a diesel mechanic who added an air conditioning system, and they also had new injectors installed. Power comes from a naturally-aspirated OM617 diesel 5-cylinder paired with a 4-speed manual transmission. The seller acquired the car two years ago and has since installed a new valve cover gasket, shocks, axle boots, brake lines, brake rotors, brake pads, and tires. Now showing 206k miles, this 300D is being offered at no reserve with a clean Arizona title in the seller’s name.

The seller notes that the body was repainted many years ago, and that the clear coat is starting to wear on the rear driver-side rear corner near the trunk lid. A small dent can be seen under the front bumper, and there are some areas of rust behind the rear wheels.

European-spec bumpers and headlights remain in place, and the factory Bundt wheels were fitted with new tires by the seller.

The cloth upholstery shows some wear on the driver’s outer bolster, as well as some stains on the door panels. This car is equipped with a manually-operated sunroof that was not an option on US models. The vacuum-actuated locks are not working well, though they are said to open and close manually.

The air conditioning system is operated by a factory switch, and no additional modifications were made to the interior aside from an aftermarket head unit. The 6-digit odometer indicates 206k miles, around 10k of which were added by the seller over the last two years.

The 3.0-liter OM617 inline-five diesel is paired with a 4-speed manual transmission. The previous owners had the Bosch injectors replaced in 2014, and the seller installed a new valve cover gasket, radiator catch can, and air filter after his purchase in 2016.
